“The placement year was the reason I chose Harper in the first place, and it did not disappoint!” Annabel Hollis, BSc (Hons) Rural Enterprise and Land Management. International opportunities Sometimes placement takes you overseas to work and/or to complete studies in a partner university. During the first six months of her placement, graduate Courtenay Mae, BSc (Hons) Agri-Business, attended HAS University of Applied Science, Netherlands, studying Food Business and worked on a global market entry plan for a new product in association with a multinational dairy company. For the remainder of her placement, Courtenay worked at Monte CreekWinery, Canada as a Tasting RoomAssociate. Her duties included providing wine tasting – discussing wine pairings, varietals and tasting notes – as well as organising and representing Monte Creek at off-site events such as wine festivals and supermarket tastings “My placement has made me more confident for the future; it let me apply my skills to the real world as I progressed through university." “The placement position has enabled me to adapt to the professional world, equipped me with core employee attributes, and helped me further understand my career direction. A year in industry will undoubtably add significant value as I prepare for my final year studies... I look forward to the opportunities ahead” TimCotterill , BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Farm Business Management. “During [my placement], I would be pulled from jobs to do other things such as helping with the meat delivery, target training the lion and tiger cubs to be hand vaccinated, weighing the cheetahs, weighing the white lions, pressure washing, cleaning jeeps and weeding." Lisa Berry , BSc (Hons) Applied Zoology TimCotterill Lisa Berry Fellow BSc (Hons) Agribusiness student Dan Stones spent his year in industry working as a Marketing Intern for John Deere based inMannheim in South-West Germany andmanaged to expand his horizons by visiting 10 European countries during his year away from campus. “Living inMannheimwas an amazing experience as it was perfectly located for travelling all aroundWestern Europe, with trains to Switzerland, France, Italy, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium and Austria. This gave me the opportunity to travel as much as I wanted and by the end of my internship, I hadmanaged to visit 10 countries! For me, placement is just as important as doing the three years studying at Harper. By getting that practical experience to combine with the knowledge gained at Haper, it gives you the best chance to stand out and get that future job in whatever sector you want to work in."
