Study skills Develop skills such as note taking, report writing, referencing, revision and exam techniques in a drop-in lunchtime workshop, online through the library website, or make an appointment with the Academic Guidance team. Our maths tutor can also help students with basic numeracy and gives more targeted support to engineering students in need of advanced maths skills. Learner and disability support The Learner Support Service is available to all students who feel they need support, whatever your learning needs or disability, to ensure you get the most from university life. For instance, we provide application support for Disabled Students’ Allowance, advise on the right accommodation on or off campus; and provide dyslexia screening, assessments, study resources and guidance. Maths support Maths is at the root of some of our more technical modules, which is why we have additional support on hand to get you through. Primarily aimed at first year students struggling with our arithmetic heavy mechanics, statistics or engineering modules, our support tutor is available for all students on an individual or small group basis! Help is also available for general numeracy, accounting and even dissertation support (but you don’t have to worry about that just yet). English language If English isn’t your first language, then don’t worry! We provide free English language classes, extra study advice and individual support for any international students who feel they might benefit. Careers service Already thinking about your future? Then our careers service has got you covered! Open to all students no matter their academic year, our professional team of guidance counsellors aim to deliver the advice and information needed for your personal development. Although using this service isn’t mandatory, we highly recommend reaching out to our teamwithin your first year so you can use their support to shape your study. With a designated Careers Resource Area and an online vacancy page during the summer, the team are ready and waiting to get you into employment. Get support when it’s needed Placement support Speaking of being ready for employment, at Harper Adams you’ll take part in our industry leading placement year on page 88 . Alongside dedicated Placement Managers, you’ll receive support from our Placement Officers and Visiting Tutors — so you can be sure you’ll get the most out of your work experience! Information services Technology is great… when it goes right. For those times it doesn’t, our Information Services team are on hand to support. All of our students are offered bespoke training in the use of our University computer system and virtualised desktop; as well as emails, the portal, and other learning opportunities. Harper is also registered as a Microsoft Academy, so for those among you that want to up your digital skills, we can provide extra training and exams to gain those recognised qualifications. Land-based skills programme If you’re hoping to improve any land-based skills while you’re here at Harper, then look no further than our subsidised Land-based Skills Programme.
