4 5 Sports facilities Faccenda (Student Centre) QMHDiningHall Students’ Union (SU) Bars Bamford Library and Engineering Design Centre (EDC) The dining hall, to your right, is where students’ main meals are served during the week. Non- catered students and staff can also purchase meals here. People visiting the campus for conferences and short courses also eat here and in a smaller dining room behind it. The Queen Mother Hall, upstairs, seats 400 and is ideal for presentations and formal dinners. A fitness suite with sprung floor is situated at the bottom of the stairs. Through the grey door you will find the entrance to the large sports hall to your left. If you walk along the corridor and through the door, you will find our multi-gym and squash courts. Behind this building several rugby football pitches, a multi- use games area, and the newest of our self- catered halls of residence can be found. The three-storey Faccenda building is a student hub. The ground floor has a reception for general enquiries, convenience shop, computer lounge, seminar rooms and the popular Graze Café, serving hot and cold food and drinks. The upper floors are home to a number of classrooms, Student Services, the Students’ Union, student post room, the Careers and Placement teams, Learner Support, International Student Support, the Assignment Office, and Registry/ Admissions. There are two student bars on campus. The first is the Welly Inn, a cosy roomwith comfortable seats and a pool table where karaoke, film and comedy nights are held. The large adjoining Main Bar is where most of the student parties and themed Wednesday nights are staged. Bands and DJs play here, and it is also the scene for the university’s balls, leading out to entertainment marquees. The themed Summer Ball, held in June, is the biggest. The Main Bar has been extended, with an extra bar and seating. This eco-friendly building, part funded by engineering firm JCB, houses a two-storey library with access to a large range of books, e-books, print and electronic journals. Students make good use of the computer suite, IT department (first floor), group and silent study rooms, self-issue terminals, colour printers, photocopiers and a helpdesk for advice and support. An online search system allows students to find, renew and reserve books and journals, and pay any fines and charges. The Engineering Design Centre on the ground floor has class and study rooms with access to powerful workstations running the latest computer-aided design (CAD) software, and rapid prototyping technology. From the QMH lobby turn left through the double doors into the Faccenda Student Services centre. Now retrace your steps back through the Faccenda reception and exit through the automatic doors.
