TheHarper Inspired Applied Caring Agriculture graduate Victoria Smith secured the Entrepreneur of the Year award at the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC’s) YFC Achiever Awards 2021 for her work launching her business, West End Barns, during the 2020 lockdown. “West End Barns is proof that if you are determined enough and are prepared to work hard, anything is possible," she said. Roddy McLean, Director of Agriculture, NatWest, added: “Victoria had a vision and executed it in the right way – she did research, sought funding and has plans for growth… I am excited to see where Victoria takes West End Barns.” Read more. Rosie Cowie, a Veterinary Physiotherapy graduate, is using her skills and knowledge of bovine health (the subject of her university dissertation) to now support animal welfare in the food chain, working for a major retailer. Rosie gave an online lecture to current students in 2021: “My lecture was to the Farm Animal Health class on the theme of ‘Farm to Fork – the importance of farm animal health and welfare’, focusing on the impact which farm animal health and welfare has on the end product and how the consumer perceives these standards – so looking at how the supply chain links from farm to consumer." Read more. Graduate Rob McAneney is building up his first farm – and attracting media attention along the way! Rob farms at Scow Hall, a farm owned by Yorkshire Water, after winning a competition that formed part of the firm’s Beyond Nature Next Generation Farming plans. He was picked from almost 50 entrants after impressing judges with his extensive knowledge on the project – and ended up on television sharing his experiences.
