Harper Adams University - Prospectus 2024
MEng Automotive Engineering student Sam Scales, didn’t have the most conventional route into Harper – but due to his fantastic work ethic and support from our academic teams, he has gone on to lead some incredible projects. Having undertaken an apprenticeship in construction plant equipment, Sam came to Harper to put his skills to the test, whilst also directing a consultancy business at the same time. Although clearly busy enough, Sam became Harper’s chosen student when we were asked to construct our own Jubilee Beacon in 2022. Speaking on the project, Sam said: “It’s been a real honour to be involved with [this]... It’s been an eye-opening experience into being what an engineer actually is. [At Harper] they teach you how to be an engineer, rather than just ‘engineering’ – how to be worthwhile from the start to any employer. As a dyslexic student from a vocational background, it’s somewhere I could thrive." With the help of the Engineering Society and the University, Sam’s three-meter pyre was lit at precisely 9:45 pm on June 6, 2022. At the same time, 2,021 other beacons across the country came ablaze in honour of Her Majesty The Queen. Readmore h ere.
