“It is exciting – you don’t have to think rural with this degree, as long as you have got the right skills, you can apply them to anything – you can go fromhere andwork in themiddle of a city like Chester. Estates like Grosvenor will have properties in cities which needmanagement – the course can take you anywhere!” says Land and Property Management student Emily Houghton. Having completed her placement at Grosvenor’s Eaton Estate, Emily went on to win the Buccleuch Prize – an award presented to the top performing LandManagement placement student. “I thoroughly enjoyed it – I got to see a lot, do a lot, and have a lot of responsibility. “Youmight think ‘how lovely, howquaint’ about some of the cottages – but there are big commercial properties in the centre of cities like Chester that require asmuch attention as some of those rural properties. “Whichever one you are doing though, when you are speakingwith tenants it is so lovely to have that personal touch. You do build up a relationshipwith the people youworkwith – and I think that’s what I loved somuch about my placement. You get to see lots of lovely places – andmeet such amazing people. “Because of that, I didn’t really seemy placement as a ‘job’ – so to get an award for it felt amazing!” Student Story: EmilyHoughton 42 | UNDERGRADUATE PROSPECTUS 2024
