Harper Adams University - Prospectus 2024

nt Story: Will Owen Student Story: Nafisa Jibrilu Student Story: Zoe Legg “When I was looking at universities for a food related programme, none of them could compare to Harper Adams. The course’s applicability to the food industry and the placement year really helped Harper stand out from its competitors.” says food student, Will Owen. Readmore about Will here – and how he got to present a live cooking demonstration at the Taste of London Food Festival. “I cannot emphasise how happy I am that I decided to come to Harper Adams – it's one of the best decisions I have ever made,” says final year student and food entrepreneur, Zoe Legg. “I have always wanted to own and run my own business, and in my eyes, launching it while studying is a fantastic opportunity to apply my food-related degree to the business and learn by doing.” Zoe launched ‘Better on’ — a whey protein product that supports mental and physical health whilst giving back to the British farming industry – two years ago and has not looked back since. “It wouldn’t have happened without Harper. It was purely a side conversation with one of my lecturers, Zoe Harrison, about how I was frustrated that I couldn’t find a British whey powder and that I’d love to start a business that started it all.” Readmore about Zoe’s business here. From London, to Nigeria, to Egypt to Edinburgh – Nafisa has lived all over the world, but Harper’s practically-focused and future-minded food courses brought her to rural Shropshire, and straight into the Food Academy kitchens! “The course seemed really interesting and extremely hands-on which is what I was looking for. I didn’t want to be just sat in a classroom learning the theory, I wanted to be experiencing it for myself. “I was fascinated when I arrived on Offer Holder Day, I didn’t really imagine seeing an industrial sized kitchen in the middle of a university campus – and for students to have access to these kinds of facilities I think is incredible. I don’t know of many universities that have the same policies when it comes to students using equipment straight away," says Nafisa. Now focused on a career in the egg production industry, Nafisa is commited to creating a Net Zero future for the sector and hopes a future with Morrisons will do just the trick!
