The UK’s newest vet school welcomed its first students to the Harper Adams campus inOctober, beginning their five-year programme of study toward a Bachelor of VeterinaryMedicine and Surgery (BVetMS) qualification. The veterinary students have now made their homes at Keele University and Harper Adams University, the partners behind the newHarper & Keele Vet School. Head of School, Professor Matt Jones, said: “We’re confident that the diverse group of students joining us have already demonstrated that they will rise to the challenges and grasp the opportunity that they will face to be true innovators. Research to identify key factors affecting farmers’ attitudes and beliefs towards farmcrime, its prevention, the police and their insurers, has resulted in the University being short-listed for theOutstanding Contribution to the Local Community award in the Times Higher Education Awards 2020. Known as theOscars of Higher Education, Dr Kreseda Smith’s (pictured right) research prompted a concerted outreach effort by the University’s Rural Security Research Group and is helping to shed light on the affect rural crime work has on communities. Harper Adams continues as UK’s top-ratedmodern university for a fifth year according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021. Ranking 131 institutions, the guide ranked Harper Adams 8th in the overall league, remaining the only post-1992 institution to have ever made it into the Times Top 30. Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Llewellyn said: “It is a remarkable achievement to be placed in the top 30 universities in the Guide and to be the highest-rankedmodern university in the UK for the fifth year in a row. Our top ten performance in teaching quality and student experiencemarks us out as a leading specialist university, where strong industry ties and the opportunity to undertake an industrial placement as part of our course will stand graduates in good stead when embarking on their careers.
