Harper Life 2019 - Alumni Magazine

Harper Adams graduate Nicola Blowey has been awarded Dairy Trainee of the Year 2019, a national award in New Zealand, following her success at the regional finals in March. At the regionals, as well as Trainee of the Year, Nicola also won three of five other awards presented separately. The national final judging involves a number of stages including a practical section and an interview with the national judges on the day prior to the National Awards Dinner which was held on Saturday 11th May. Nicola, originally fromDevon, is Assistant Herd Manager on a 600 cow farm in Fairlie after moving to New Zealand three years ago. At the time of graduation in 2016, Nicola decided she wanted to learn more about grass and low-cost dairy systems which made her consider New Zealand. Nicola hopes to have her own herd in the future and she wants to create progression opportunities for young people in the dairy industry. Our records include more than 60 former students now living or working in New Zealand. Cameron Bennison, who completed the REALM degree in 2017, reports that he is one of at least six graduates, from different courses and different years, living in the same town - Fairlie. One of them is Nicola Blowey (see below!) Cameron is currently dairy assistant on a 850 cow farm in South Canterbury * * * Nicola Blowey - New Zealand dairy trainee of the Year 2019
