Harper Adams University Postgraduate Prospectus

ALICE MONTROSE MSc Sustainable Agriculture “There are more career opportunities in agriculture than ever before.” Alice Montrose, from Oxfordshire, graduated in 2014 with an MSc Sustainable Agriculture. She is now training as an Agronomist with Agrovista. “I chose to study a postgraduate degree to further my knowledge in the subject and increase my employment opportunities. Harper Adams is the best place to study agricultural-based subjects and has a great reputation. The teaching was of a very high standard, it was very applied and relevant to the current industry, and help was always available. “I have got a job as a trainee agronomist at Agrovista. The training is two years long and after that I intend to build my client base in the Oxfordshire area. I work as a consultant to farmers on the production of crops and am involved in recommendations and sales of chemicals. “The university has a good reputation with companies in the agricultural sector so Agrovista knew that I would have a good knowledge. The fact that I had a Masters degree also showed my dedication and ability to study independently.” “I think there are more career opportunities in agriculture than ever before with new challenges being faced in production in terms of land space, changing weather patterns and decline of natural resources. Therefore there is a need for expertise not only in farming but also how to make the industry more efficient and more sustainable. “It has made a difference to my position as I am much better equipped to start a career in the industry and completing the course has helped me to develop important skills such as planning, dedication, self- motivation and problem solving. “I would definitely recommend doing a Masters degree to people who have the motivation to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed my course and would highly recommend Harper Adams as an institution if you want to study a land based subject.” 40
