University houses • Mostly single-sex, shared student houses situated along Flatt Road, opposite the main campus, and near to teaching facilities, the companion animal unit, mock veterinary practice, countryside resource centre, poultry unit and the Crop and Environment Research Centre. • These houses are located in a peaceful area with views of the farm. • Around 140 students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) live in these houses and experience the independence of sharing a house combined with a traditional student lifestyle and the benefits of on-campus support and services. • Postgraduate students are usually housed with other postgraduate or international students. For further information and images visit: harper.ac.uk/accomm Living off campus Student Services offer help and advice to any students looking for off campus accommodation through forums, literature, an online property search facility, with properties available and landlord contact details. There is plentiful suitable student accommodation (inspected by Telford and Wrekin Council) both in the local town of Newport and the surrounding rural vicinity, including cottages, houses, barn conversions and flats. The majority are within a five-mile radius of the campus. Food Great food has always been a priority at Harper Adams. We have three on-site eateries offering excellent food based on our ethos to support local food and business, which earned us a Times Higher Education Award, BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming best public caterer award, and a Catey award for sustainable business. Harper Adams is committed to supporting UK farmers, and using local produce, including that produced on our own Harper Adams Farm. For produce we are unable to obtain locally we aim to buy Fairtrade. Main Dining Room Postgraduate students are welcome to join undergraduates, staff and guests in this large dining room, in Queen Mother Hall, where delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners are provided Monday to Friday. A typical menu might include lasagne, chicken fajitas, vegetarian strudel, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, soups, and a range of mouth- watering desserts. Graze Café Based within the Faccenda building, Graze offers a fantastic choice daily, from drinks, cakes and healthy snacks to made-to-order baguettes and homemade casseroles containing produce from the farm. Kaldi Café Located on the ground floor of the Bamford Library this lively café is open during undergraduate term time and is ideal for a break from studying. From a quick drink to a light lunch with friends or colleagues, there’s always a good choice, including freshly ground coffee (with locally sourced milk), sandwiches, panini, toasties and oatcakes, and a great selection of Fairtrade produce. Self-catering Self-catered accommodation has a good range of cooking and storage facilities. There is a shop in the Faccenda building for food supplies, and supermarkets, grocers and markets in nearby Edgmond, Newport and Telford. There are a variety of vending machines around campus, including in the postgraduate common room. Food off-campus Newport, approximately three miles away from Harper Adams, has a good range of cafes, restaurants and take-away outlets. harper.ac.uk/cater 37
