RECREATION Harper Adams has a compact campus but a big social scene with sports facilities, bars and cafés, clubs and societies, and a full entertainment calendar. Facilities All of the facilities on our compact rural campus are within easy walking distance and include a fully equipped gym, sports hall, heated outdoor swimming pool open in spring and summer, dance and fitness studio, astroturf pitch for football and hockey, multi-use sports area, bowling green, table tennis, pool tables and a cricket pitch. Harper Adams boasts some of the best grass pitches in Shropshire including a fully floodlit rugby pitch and training pitches. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, biking and birdwatching. The Postgraduate Centre has its own dedicated social space for students to relax, enjoy refreshments, study, read or talk to colleagues. There are two bars on site (Main Bar and The Welly Inn), Graze and Kaldi cafés, and the QMH dining hall. Clubs and societies Opportunities to get involved and meet a wider range of people are many and varied with classes, clubs and societies to suit every interest, from yoga to drama to outdoor pursuits or dance. The Students’ Union (SU) organises social, cultural and sporting activities for all students, including club nights, trips, gigs, quizzes, film and comedy nights. The Postgraduate Society aims to integrate students on different postgraduate courses with social events, networking opportunities, cultural trips and activities. Typical events include an inter-university networking event, sporting activities and termly socials. These are publicised mainly through the Society’s Facebook group and a designated area on the SU website. The Society also represents postgraduates within the SU and the academic administration. Planet Harper is open to all but is particularly popular with international and postgraduate students. See page 23 for details.
