Harper Adams University Postgraduate Prospectus
“A postgraduate qualification has allowed me to specialise in an area that I love. I would definitely recommend postgraduate study at Harper Adams because you will be coming to a place where every lecturer knows your name, is an expert in their subject area and is always willing to help you achieve your potential.” CLAIRE CIANCHI MSc Sustainable Agriculture Claire Cianchi, from Herefordshire, England, is studying MSc Sustainable Agriculture full time, and lives in the local town, Newport. Originally an assistant brand manager she decided to study for a higher degree to give her an overview of the agricultural sector and to enhance her career opportunities within it. She has a scholarship from the Elizabeth Creak charitable trust. “One of the most important things for me was that Harper Adams has a farm on site, which allows teaching to take place both in and out of the classrooms. I love that we can have a lecture on oil seed rape in the morning and then spend the afternoon in the field acting as an agronomist – it really puts what you’re learning into a real-life perspective. “There is so much more to the university than its courses, including farm sessions, opportunities to take part in land-based qualifications and of course the social aspect. I feel that when I finish my course I won’t just have gained an MSc, but my practical knowledge and understanding, my employability in the agricultural sector and confidence will all have benefited from the many extracurricular activities on offer. “Harper Adams has given me the opportunity to gain experience in many different types of industries, including dairy, pigs, sheep, arable, and so on. As well as practical experience the knowledge and industry connections of our lecturers will be very helpful in our future careers. “What’s more, the course structure has given me the flexibility to undertake paid work when required to help fund my course.” 9
